ULMA joins the UN Global Compact supporting the initiative to create a more inclusive, prosperous and sustainable business fabric

May 28, 2024
In line with the strategic objective of reinforcing sustainability in all business activity, ULMA has shown its commitment and promoted collaboration to achieve a more sustainable economy by joining the United Nations Global Compact in March.

The UN Global Compact is the initiative that promotes a more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous business environment, exercising as a catalyst for the efforts of companies and organisations in compliance with the Ten Principles and in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Compact is the leading global action forum for the development of corporate sustainability that has more than 23,800 participants in more than 160 countries.

By joining the Spanish Global Compact Network, which today celebrates its twentieth anniversary as a leader in corporate sustainability, ULMA is committed to complying with the following the Ten Principles of the Global Compact, which guarantee a corporate conduct respectful of human and labour rights and the environment and committed to the fight against corruption. These principles are embedded in the way we do business and are included in our internal Code of Ethics.

However, with the understanding that true sustainability is only achievable through collaboration with other entities, we decided to contribute to the SDGS17 by joining the global alliance represented by the Global Compact. These 17 Sustainable Development Goals  (SDGs), together with 169 concrete targets, are part of an action plan approved by 193 member countries of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, entitled 2030 Agenda. A roadmap designed and agreed to be developed and achieved by 2030 for people, the planet, prosperity and universal peace. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN's 2030 Agenda encompass social, economic and environmental goals that seek to achieve responsible production and consumption, decent work, and economic growth, among other purposes.

Through the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in its actions and plans, ULMA is part of the network of companies committed to promoting responsible supply chains and the innovation of sustainable products and services, in addition to promoting the practices that contribute to mitigating climate change

The Global Compact provides a framework for mutual learning, the exchange of best practices, and discussion forums to jointly create and promote new approaches and solutions to key global sustainability challenges. By forming a part of this, we want to be even more active and contribute collaboratively to the global effort.

Undoubtedly, the celebration on 28 May will be an exceptional opportunity, not only to recognise the work done by the Spanish Global Compact Network, but also to encourage collaboration between the different actors who will meet there in favour of sustainable transformation.

In this way, in addition to ensuring strict compliance with the 10 Principles of the Global Compact, we join in the dissemination of the Sustainable Development Goals and the teamwork necessary to achieve them.

The Director of Sustainability, Igor Odriozola, and the ESG Manager, Leire Martiarena from ULMA attended the event organised by the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact.
