In partnership with the Green Building Council we are helping our customers in their transition towards sustainability

Nov 12, 2024
As a sign of our commitment to a more sustainable industry, and with the aim of joining forces and simplifying the work of our customers, we have taken the necessary steps to include ULMA solutions in the Green Building Council's Construction Materials Platform.

This platform, designed for professionals in the construction sector, was created with the aim of providing information on the sustainability of construction products and systems. Companies in the sector seeking to certify their buildings with VERDE, LEED or BREEAM sustainability seals can therefore have access to the information they need to select the right materials and solutions to obtain these certifications, all on a single platform.

The platform is also managed and supported by the Green Building Council (GBC), a non-profit institution for the promotion of a sustainable building model. Since the creation of the first GBC in 1993, the network has expanded to more than 70 countries worldwide and has more than 36,000 members representing the entire value chain.

We have included products from all our categories in this process: formwork (wall and column formwork, climbing and slab formwork and light shoring), scaffolding and safety systems. Through this, we guarantee the contribution of these solutions to the achievement of the LEED and BREEAM sustainable building labels.

ULMA Construcción carries out this rigorous and transparent exercise with a twofold purpose: firstly, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability, which starts with manufacturing and delivering sustainable solutions, and secondly, we make it easier for other players in our industry to select products that enable their transition towards sustainability.

The construction sector is one of the economic activities with the most significant impacts on sustainability: approximately 30% of all global carbon emissions are attributed to the construction sector, with at least 8% resulting from the manufacture of building materials. Furthermore, it is estimated that this sector is responsible for 40% of global energy consumption.  Within the European Union, the construction sector consumes 50% of the raw materials extracted, and generates 35% of the total waste.

This is why the transformation of the sector is paramount to achieving the sustainability goals set out in global agendas, from the European Green Pact to the Paris Agreement.

The sustainable transformation of the construction sector requires the evolution of all its different components, and as one of them, ULMA Construcción wants to contribute to this transition process through more sustainable products and services.

This accreditation represents our decision to take a step forward in sustainable leadership and the necessary alliances to drive the sustainable transformation of a core sector to ensure well-being and social development, and which must progressively seek a balance with the environment, thereby minimising its impacts.
