Bjønnås and Grenland tunnel, new E18 motorway Langangen - Rugtvedt

Technical solution for cut and cover tunnels
Construction of cut and cover tunnels for Bjønnås and Grenland tunnel belonging to the new E18 motorway that will connect the towns of Langangen and Rugtvedt.

Description

The new E-18 motorway is one of the most important transport projects in Norway connecting Oslo and Kristiansand.

The E-18 Langangen – Rugtvedt is part of the development of the project with the goal of constructing a for lane road. It is 17 kilometres long and includes the construction of several structures like Bjønnås tunnel (2,5 kilometres long) and Grenland tunnel (5,1 kilometres long).

This project will bring multiple benefits to this area since it will help to promote housing and labour market thanks to the creation of a better connection with nearby regions.

ULMA solution

ULMA has provided the technical solution for cut and cover tunnels. Although the geometry remains constant in most of the structures, some cut and covers have variable cross section. This variability is a challenge that ULMA has faced through the design of a MK carriage system.

This is a standard solution that will allow the customer to solve all the neccesary adjustments and changes in geometry during the construction thanks to the flexibility that the MK system provides them.
