Description
The new Soccer Stadium of the RCD Espanyol is located on the outskirts of Barcelona, in the town of Cornellá-El Prat, on a 36,000 m2 lot. The project was carried out in three stages:construction of a rugby field, urban development of the entire sector, and finally, construction of the stadium.
The facility, with a capacity to house 37,751 spectators in the first phase, increased this number to 40,500 in the second phase, without having to complete significant structural work on the third stand. The roof structure composed of 4 beams, with a maximum length of 200 m, is supported by 8 concrete columns with a diameter of 2 meters.
ULMA Solution
The execution of this project entailed a construction challenge due to the high work rates that were necessary in order to complete this construction within the specified deadlines, in addition to constantly maintaining high quality levels in the finish. For this reason, systems that were profitable, efficient, and with easy handling were used, such as the CC-4 aluminum formwork, in order to execute the slabs, and the modular ORMA system to create the walls of the stands.
The CC-4 system provided the advantages related to aluminum, such as lightness. This product enabled the prior assembly of the grid and the subsequent placement of the working platform. It has a single remaining element, the drophead, which sped up the forming and stripping times, and facilitated the recovery of the material without any part falling to the floor. The profitability of the project was ensured since through the use of this system, combined with others such as VR Tables and ENKOFLEX (for stairs), it was possible to rotate teams with the subsequent reduction of necessary material.
The concrete slabs were executed on sitewiththe CC-4 Formwork. As shoring, ALUPROP Aluminum Props were used to form easily handled towers. In this manner, the necessary heights for propping the upper parts of the stands were safely reached.
