Description:
The approximately $32 million, the eight-story, 248,000-square-foot office building was constructed on a 19-acre site at the northeast corner of Holbrook and Interstate 75 in Detroit. Adjacent to the office building, American Axle also built a 225,000-square-foot, two-structure parking garage that accommodates more than 500 vehicles.
The North Parking Deck is a 4-level cast-in-place garage accommodating 152 cars. The parking garage connects to the new visitor center and services visitor parking.
The South Parking Deck is a 5-level cast-in-place garage with 442 parking spots, including employee parking.
ULMA Solution:
Contractor CCK chose ULMA’s GARAGE BEAM SYSTEM, ideal for cast-in-place post-tension parking structures and ENKOFLEX shoring and re-shoring.
The south deck spans four floors, 1444,000 SF with 7” thick concrete slabs. ULMA provided material for an entire floor of 36,000 SF, including the deck and the beams, MEGALITE for the forming of walls, ENKOFLEX, and ALUPROPS for shoring purposes. ALUPROP aluminum shoring posts were also used for three re-shoring levels.
On the other hand, the north deck spans three floors, 60,000 SF with 7” thick concrete slabs. ULMA provided forming and shoring systems for one entire floor and offered ALUPROPs for two re-shoring levels.
An increasing number of contractors choose cast-in-place vs. precast as this construction method has no design limitation, offering superior quality and longevity with a less or equal budget vs. precast.
